First edition 1st printing, Near Fine book that has been bumped at bottom of spine, in a Very Good jacket with edge and corner wear, touch of sun yellowing on spine, spine panel shifted slightly toward front panel, slight color loss, light rubbing on panels, couple of stray red marks back panel, few light overwrite impressions, including one over the price. Illustrated in B/W by Harold West. Quite nice copy of a scarce title.

Very Good book that has soft spine ends, front end page has two POI/gift inscriptions in blue ballpoint, plus an apparent PON that has been blacked out; in a Fair to Good, price-clipped dust jacket that has soiling and age and sun toning, especially on spine, numerous small chips and several 1 to 2 inch closed tears (one with old tape repair on inside of jacket) and with a blue ink smudge on back panel. This book won the 1937 Newbery Award.

A quite nice copy with illustrations by Marc Simon. For young readers, and also their parents, this was very popular book back when issued.
